Philadelphia Highlights
Philadelphia - Amish country & valley forge
Philadelphia, the nation’s fifth-largest city
(with population of 1.6 million, metro area 5.78 million), contains more historic buildings than similar acreage in any other American City.

• Independence Hall
This redbrick building, constructed in 1732-1756 as the Pennsylvania state house, in the birthplace of the United States and the country’s most historic building.

• Christ Church
The Anglicans of the church of England built a wooden church on this site in 1697.
• Betsy Ross House
The eight-room house overflows with artifacts such as a family Bible and Betsy Ross’s chest of drawers and reading glasses.

• The Liberty Bell
The bell fulfilled the biblical words of its inscription when It ran to “proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof,” beckoning Philadelphia’s to the state house yard to hear the first reading of the declaration of independence.

• Franklin Institute Science Museum
Founded over 175 years ago to honor Benjamin Franklin, the institute is a science museum that is as clever as its namesake, thanks to an abundance of dazzling hands-on exhibits.

• Lancaster County and The Amish
Travel to Lancaster and see the Amish who still live a plain lifestyle and farm the land without any modern conveniences. Visit an actual Amish homestead and travel to a restaurant serving traditional Pennsylvania Dutch food.

• Valley Forge
View film and see reconstructed log cabins where the soldiers lived, the 18th century farmhouse that served as Washington’s headquarters and a beautiful 20th century chapel dedicated to Washington and his men.
